Jack Russell Training Guidelines When Training The Come Command
There are many fundamental commands every jack russell terrier must learn during jack russell training. One of which is the come command. Like sit, stay or down command, training your dog to come when called is one of the ways to make certain his safety whether he is at home or out under the sun. If your four-legged friend is reliably trained with the said command, letting him off leash in the beach, park or grandma’s huge garden is no big deal in the least because you know that you can always control and call him back should unforeseen circumstances arise.
Though the command may appear so easy when executed, training them to obey may not be very easy taking into consideration their high energy level, curiosity and their behavioral instinct to hunt. A jack russell may choose not to come to you when he spots a badger running around.
To start your dog training session, hold a treat few feet away from your jack russell at the same time say his name. Give reward when your puppy comes to you. Repeat and step backward gently to raise the gap between the both of you. Lavish him with praise and reward whenever he comes back to you when you call his name.
It may seem very easy but jack russell training to master the come command doesn’t stop there. It is important that you associate the command with something good like calling him to give him treat or to play. Putting him inside the crate or hitting his rear when he comes to you after you call him will only cause him to associate the command with something unpleasant. Reinforce the command by calling him anytime during the day.
If your dearest dog|pet is just too persistent to obey, avoid calling him repeatedly. Call his name only once and when he comes back to you, reward with praise and treats. Whether he comes back as soon as you gave the command or two hours after, just give him reward.
